Mountain Biking from Trail Creek 74
Mountain biking is one of the closest activities to Trail Creek 74. A quick pedal from the upper lot brings you to the Snowshed Express and access to all three biking areas.
Below is a rundown of each area, with a suggested progression to keep you on trails that match your skill and experience.
Which Area Is Right for You?
| Area | Best for | Trail levels |
|---|---|---|
| Snowshed | Beginners, warm-up laps, and skills practice | Beginner through expert |
| Ramshead | Confident intermediate and advanced riders | Intermediate through advanced expert (no beginner terrain) |
| Killington Peak | Advanced and expert riders, or a scenic gondola ride | Mostly expert and advanced expert, with a few intermediate trails |
Suggested Progression
- Start at Snowshed. Warm up on the beginner trails, then work up to the intermediate trails.
- Clear Jump Start before moving to Ramshead’s Blue Magic.
- Move to Ramshead once you are comfortable on intermediate terrain. Every trail there is blue or harder.
- Try Killington Peak only with advanced technical experience, plus drop and jump skills.
Snowshed
Great for beginners and warm-up laps. Begin with the easiest trails and work your way up to more challenging terrain.
| Level | Trails |
|---|---|
| Beginner | Easy Street, Wiggle, Roller |
| Intermediate | Step It Up, Coaster, Jump Start |
| Expert | Rabbit Hole, Stinky |
| Progression parks | Easy Street, Stinky Skills |
Notes
- Jump Start is an intermediate jump line and requires jumping skills.
- Stinky Skills requires established drop and jump skills. Start small and work your way up to larger features.
Ramshead
Ramshead has no beginner terrain, only blue, black, and double black trails.
| Level | Trails |
|---|---|
| Intermediate | Sideshow Bob, Krusty, Blue Magic, Escape Artist, Side Quest |
| Expert | Steel Panther (middle and lower) |
| Advanced expert | Black Magic, Goat Skull |
Notes
- Blue Magic is appropriate for riders who can clear Jump Start.
- Steel Panther requires advanced drop and rock-roll skills. Its upper section is reached from Killington Peak; the middle and lower sections are on Ramshead.
- Black Magic has high-consequence features and requires expert jump and drop skills. Ride it only if you can clear all of Jump Start.
- Goat Skull requires advanced technical downhill and drop skills.
Killington Peak
Most Killington Peak trails require advanced technical riding experience, plus drop and jump skills. They are not recommended for beginner or intermediate riders.
| Level | Trails |
|---|---|
| Intermediate | The Light, Solitude, Off The Top, Bear Trail, Shreddie |
| Expert | Cable, Snakebite (lower), Gambler, Steel Panther (upper), Scarecrow |
| Advanced expert | Foxy Roxy, Low Rider, Yo Vinnie, Funny Bone, The Beast |
Our take
- The blue trails suit a gondola ride, lunch at the Peak Lodge, and a scenic ride. We don’t recommend them for the riding itself. Off The Top, for example, is mostly a work road with a coarse, angular gravel surface, and it isn’t particularly enjoyable, in our opinion.
- For expert riders, Cable, Shreddie, and lower Snakebite make a fun lap. Most of the features are optional.
- The optional drop at the start of Cable is one of the most difficult at Killington. Only the most experienced experts should attempt it.
